I wasn’t able to get the quality I wanted on a WMV file, and those tended to have very low download numbers, so I’ll probably leave it off from now on.
MEGAUPLOAD SPECIAL NOTE: Since MegaUpload automatically streams videos on MegaVideo, and I can’t find a way to make it stop, I’ve messed with the file extensions so that these files aren’t recognized as videos. After you download them, just change the “_avi” or “_mp4″ to “.avi” or “.mp4″ and everything should be fine.
The two full-length episodes will be coming with all due speed, but in the meantime I hope you like the bonus features. In addition to the chibi gag story above, the disc also came with a promo for the feature length movie currently showing in theaters across Japan: “Showdown in England’s Tennis Fortress”.

Movie Promo: 47.89MB (AVI)

And since I’ve already been asked, I should probably announce: Yes, I will be subtitling this movie when it’s available on DVD.
I mean… How could I not? I haven’t been able to stop laughing at the promo for days…

Thank you very much for subbing and especially the movie promo. I am eagerly waiting for the movie to be released on DVD. But do you have any idea when the DVD releasing date will be announced? I’m checking for the news daily on multiple sites. But no way until now. And thank you for announcing that you would be subbing the movie too. I’ll be daily visiting your site for more updates which I do even now. I’m eagerly waiting for your next release.
Thank you so much.
See you.

Didn’t find any clues yet. I’m keeping an eye about this news. Because after watching the promo, seems like the movie will be interesting. And I’m also happy to hear that you’ll be subbing the movie too. Looking forward to your releases. I’ll keep visiting your site daily for more updates.

As soon as the DVD release is announced, I’ll make a post. At present the movie is (I believe) in theaters in Japan, and no DVD date has been decided. I hope you like the OVA when it’s ready!

Hi,
Just dropping by to ask if the new OVA subbing will be finished by this week. Another suggestion. I think it will be a better idea to add the status of each episode, right?
This is just an example. I’m not sure about the order if the fansubbing process. I referred wikipedia to get these steps. Please follow your steps, alright.
===========================
PRINCE OF TENNIS OVA 1
Episode Status:
Translation
Translation Check
Timing
Typeset
Editing
Quality Control
Encoding
===========================
Then make bold and red color for the process you are currently doing. Suppose, you are doing timing process. Then put the word Timing in bold and red color. And if needed you can strike out the finished processes.
Isn’t this a good idea? This way, we fans can be updated about what’s going on and we’ll get an idea about how much the work has been done. This is not a copied idea. But a self-born one, after I thought about asking you how much the episode has been done and when it will be over. Then I thought not to ask so, because if each fans disturb you fansubbers with the same question as to when it will be released, it will be annoying to you, right? Thereby, I decided to share my idea. This is just my suggestion, please use it only if you are willing to.
And also about the movie, any update about the releasing of the DVD. Not even an announcement as to when it’s going to be out on DVD. Please, we will be pleased if you find any lead to this information. I’ll also share if I find any info. Let’s together wait for a good news, but I want to hope it will be released this year.
Thank you

It’s clear that these fansubs mean a lot to you. Maybe I’m not the one to say this, since I’m not involved in the creation of the OVAs themselves, but I hope the production team behind Prince of Tennis appreciates that they have big fans all around the world. Being a big fan myself, I definitely appreciate your enthusiasm. I’ve seen some other fansub groups use variants on the system you’ve proposed, but I’m in a slightly different position from a group that has several people to assign to each task. Doing all the parts of a fansub myself, each of the steps are integrated into a less clearly defined process.
The big issue with doing quick subs in general and with adding features to this site, however, is that I hold down a day job as a systems administrator for 12-14 hours per day, five days a week (before the overtime required for server maintenance). Also, because I just moved to a new house at the end of this summer, I’ve got a lot of unpacking to do and sundry things to get settled before my weekends are back to normal (in the middle of hoping I don’t fall ill again). Fansubbing is one of the many commitments I balance in what free time I do get, and that does mean I’m historically slower than big-name groups. I had considered dropping out of fansubbing entirely before the National Tournament OVA because of the lack of time, until I realized that the other translators working on it had apparently abandoned the project and no fansubs were available. At that point, I decided that I’d pick up Prince of Tennis in their place, and I’d never drop it, even if I couldn’t do it quickly.
There is a new group (Ryuugan, I think?) that’s done something with these OVAs — I can’t say exactly what, since it’s my policy not to watch another group’s fansubs of something while I’m translating it. I know their translators and I have differed on several points in the past, so they and I may disagree on the translation of this as well, but it is there, if you want to look into what they’ve got available.
In the meantime, if you want to help with getting this version out faster and you feel up to doing line timing, I can send you a partial script to work with while I get more translation done.
And, if you want to know as soon as I do when the movie DVD is announced, here’s a link to the tool I use to keep track: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search3.html?q=minagawa+junko&r=person&step=20&order=score
I’m subscribed to the CD Japan email alerts for anything that is released starring Minagawa Junko, Echizen’s voice actress. You can also keep an eye on the movie website for an announcement: http://tenipuri-movie.com/
Thanks for your comment!

Any idea on how much longer it will be until this is released?
October 25, 2011 at 5:39 PM |
Life has gotten crazier than anticipated and I already know next month is going to be the craziest month of the year, so if I can’t finish before November, the full-length episodes may not be done until December.
